 Mochilas Wayuu Bags” Worn as crossbody or Shoulder Authentic, Artisan Handcrafted with strap s and fringes, they are made by a group of indigenous who live in La Guajira Peninsula in northern Colombia. Weaving is a traditional activity that has been passed down from their ancestors and is representative of their cultural identity. A mochila/shoulder bag/purse or “knapsack” is a handmade bag unique to the woman who weaves it.

 Each mochila is hand-made by one woman and each woman has her own signature. 100% cotton. Each bag has its own character with different colors and patterns. Typical motifs are geometrical figures that represent the natural elements- animals,plants-stars. The Wayuu method of weaving is a complex form of art done entirely by hand. Their weaving knowledge is passed down from mother to daughter for generations . It takes a female between 30 to 60 days to hand weave a mochila. No two will ever be exactly alike.
