Weaving is a craft that is associated with agricultural communities. In particular, the Wayuu bag is a craft made by Wayuu artisans from the indigenous community that lives in the Guajira peninsula in Colombia.
TYPE: Unicolor
This unicolor bag, perfect for adding color to any of your outfits thanks to its cheerful tone, is handmade with cotton thread, gauze knitted with colorful designs, cord and fringe at each end.
The bags are circular cut and their fabric is compact. According to the Wayuu tradition, weaving is a thought and they intend to show life, as well as how they feel it, through their creativity, intelligence and wisdom.
The Wayuu bag preserves the original and centenary model of our Wayuu ancestors, whose fabric is the most precious of the indigenous cultures of Colombia.
This piece of contemporary expression is the result of a design process that adapts the skill and knowledge of the indigenous artisans of the Wayuu ethnic group, inhabitants of the department of La Guajira, to the needs of current markets.
One of the main goals of AYUWU CRAFTS is to help women heads of families of the Wayuu tribe, who have contributed so much art and culture to our country. As girls they learn this trade and it becomes their only means of subsistence amid conditions of imminent poverty, hunger and thirst.
EACH WAYUU BAG HAS AN ANCESTRAL SECRET IN ITSELF, WHICH IS DECIPHERED BY WHO WEARS IT.
