Weaving is a traditional activity that has been passed down from their ancestors and is representative of their cultural identity. A mochila/shoulder bag/purse or “knapsack” is a handmade bag unique to the woman who weaves it. Each mochila is hand-made by one woman and each woman has her own signature. 100% cotton. Each bag has its own character with different colors and patterns.Typical motifs are geometrical figures that represent the natural elements-aniamal,plants-stars. The Wayuu method of weaving is a complex form of art done entirely by hand. Their weaving knowledge is passed down from mother to daughter for generations . It takes a female between 30 to 60 days to hand weave a mochila.
